Day 70 - Student Wellness Website - Fad DietsStudent Wellness Website - Fad Diets

Today I would like to talk about a Student Organization website that focuses on different aspects of health, including fad diets, called the Student Wellness Website. Within the website, I visited the portion that talked about fat dieting (because of this month's topic).

In this section of the website, the students help to define what fad diets are and ways to recognize them. They tell us to watch for claims of miraculous results, of a lack of variety or where one food source is excluded, for testimonials that are used as evidence for success of the diet, for marketing that claims the diet will work for everyone, for diets that have unsustainable long-term calorie intake, and for  diets that ignore or attack scientific approaches.

The website then goes further to explain a few different fad diets; such as The Zone, The Atkins Diet, Weight Watchers, and more.

I recommend paying a quick visit to this website to check out some of the information on the diets and to see what some school organizations say about fad dieting.

Exercise: Still no exercise. This lack of working out is really getting to me… but at least my health is continuing to improve. Hopefully sometime next week I'll be able to start up again! I recommend doing a cycling workout today. Try and do some sprinting workouts while biking or making it to a cycling class.

Eat: "Go Fish". The American Heart Association recommends that adults consume at least 6 ounces of cooked fish per week as a part of a healthy diet to help lower the risk of heart disease. While fish, like other meats, is high in protein, it doesn't contain the same levels of saturated fats as the other meats. Additionally, some fish, like salmon and trout are full of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids - a type of fat that is linked with lowering triglycerides, likely reducing blood clots and preventing abnormal heart rhythms. Cooking Light also tells us that these omega-3s may also help slow plaque buildup on artery walls.

Relax: Today, after going to my friend Katherine's baby shower (which was a ton of fun), I got to hang out with a group of my friends while we watched a movie and ate some popcorn. It was so nice to spend some time with friends just having a good time while relaxing!
