Day 76 - The Biggest Loser March Update

Episode 8

This episode starts out by having the two teams come into the elimination room to be told that this week will be a double elimination week. Not only with the team with the lowest weight loss percentage lose a player, but there will also be a red line elimination.

In order to get their team pumped up, Cara and Brett take their team members to an Olympian boxing training gym. They ask the players to push and motivate each other. Cara even has a surprise for Rulon when she brings out his former fighting trainer to help work with Rulon.

Back at the ranch, Bob and Jillian really push Arthur and Jesse to get good workouts in, especially since Arthur pulled such a big number the last week.

When the teams meet up on a football field, Ali lets them all know their challenge for the week: to get six giant inflated balls across the field, keeping the balls in the air, while wearing boxing gloves. The winners of the challenge, the red team, wins a three pound advantage at the weigh in.

When the black team meets in their dining room, the parents feel they should do whatever it takes to keep their children in the game, even if it means going home.

The red team is the first to weigh in and all pull big numbers, except for Jen. The team loses a total of 42 lbs this week, a 2.12% of weight loss. When the black team weighs in, everyone is surprised to see that Marci, Jesse, and Deni all through the weigh in by gaining weight in order to give the younger participants a fighting chance. Deni falls below the red line and is immediately eliminated from the competition. Then, when the black team deliberates over who to send home, Jesse is sent packing his bags to go home.

Episode 9

After the completion of the elimination process, Ali informs all of the remaining competitors that they will get to spend the next two weeks of their weight loss journey back at home. Everyone gets to board a plane to go home, and each have a big group and celebration waiting for their arrival. Each of the players enjoys time spent at home with loved ones; especially Austin, who gets to celebrate his 21st birthday at home with friends.

After the two weeks are complete, the players return to the ranch where they competed in a 5k run. Like the very first 5k they all ran, the order of finishing determined the order in which they got to chose their trainers. This time, however, they would run it alone. Justin is the first to finish, with Rulon coming in a quick second. Many of the red teammates finished in the top 7 and decided to stay with Brett and Cara. However, Sara surprises everyone by choosing to go with Bob and Jillian, thus forcing Arthur to join the red team.

When Arthur only pulls 16 lbs loss after two week, he knows he is going to be sent home. All of his former teammates and trainers plead with the red team to keep him on the ranch. The red team, however chose Arthur to leave the ranch. Ali reminds him that he is an inspiration to America and to keep up the fight when he gets home.

Episode 10

This week, the teams have to each pick a captain to help lead them in weight loss decisions over the course of the week. The black team chooses Marci, and the red team picks Justin. The captains immediately have to choose one individual to be the team cook over the week. They will be the only ones allowed in the kitchen. And secondly, they have to choose two people to work out with the trainers while everyone else trains together without them.

Hannah and Sara are chosen to work with Bob and Jillian. While Hannah is a bit offended, she eventually comes around and realizes that she and Sara share a lot of the same past, and were good to work together. Brett and Cara, on the other hand, have Ken and Kaylee do a workout with backpacks loaded with the same amount of weight that they had lost. Ken realizes, throughout his workout, that the stresses back home had caused him to halt his weight loss when he returned home last week. He knows he needs to open up more with his family.

While in the kitchen, Olivia on the black team has a brilliant idea to put a cycling bike in the kitchen so she can get her workout in while she cooks for everyone. When Brett later has a chat with Kaylee and Moses, he helps Moses to realize that he needs to lose the weight not for his family, but for himself. Moses feels he finally understands what he needs to do and why.

When the teams meet again for this week's challenge, Ali tells them they will be participating in an obstacle race while balancing on individual platforms on their knees. If their feet touch the mud, then they have to start all over again. The winning team gets $6,000 to split amongst themselves. The black team walks away with the win this time!

At the weigh in, the red team puts up a 44 pound loss as a team for this week, a total percentage of 2.61% weight loss. Marci heads onto the scale believing her team can walk away with this win too. The black team lost a total loss of only 1.76%. The red team wins again. While Marci wants to take the bullet for her team, she is prevented because she is the teams biggest loser for the week and cannot be voted off. At the elimination, Sara is picked as the team member to go home.

Episode 11

After the elimination, Ali tells the teams that they will be merging into a single team: the blue team. If the 12 of the players can have a weight loss total of more than 64 pounds, then all 12 of them will have immunity.

Marci and Courtney, as well as some of the other competitors, go to see the Doctor again, who tells them that their hard work is paying off.

For this weeks pop challenge, the team is asked to pair off into teams of two and they will then cook a dish that is both healthy and quick (given 30 minutes to make it) that will be judged by top chefs. The winners, Olivia and Moses won biggest loser meals for the entire time they are home before the finale.

When the contestants get to the gym and let the trainers know about the blue team, Bob and Jillian choose to work with the men while Brett and Cara work with the girls. Rulon tells it best, that this week allows them to pull together and to learn from everyone. To really get the opportunity to focus on working hard and not on the game. The trainers are also finally able to talk to the contestants that have been on the opposite teams, allowing them to reach even further breakthroughs.

The challenge for the week was to follow a yellow rope that is burried in the ground. They will come upon trivia questions and cannot proceed until they get it right. At each question, two more members will join them. If they can complete the course in 1.5 hours, then they will get a five pound advantage. If they do not complete it, 5 pounds will be added to the final total. Rulon and Marci decide to go first so they will have the most endurance. The blue team pulled it off. The reached the finish line with 6 seconds to spare and get the five pound advantage!

The team really pulled it together and gave their workouts their all. At the weigh in, the team has to get more than 59 pounds of weight loss, an average of 5 pounds each. Unfortunately, the blue team did not reach their goal and had to go through an elimination process to send one person home: Marci or Kaylee. Marci decided to sacrifice herself, saying that her time was going to come eventually and today was her day. The contestants honor Marci's wishes and send her home this week.

Exercise: While I didn't exercise today, I did go on a nice long walk with Aaron downtown. It was so nice to get outdoors and to enjoy the nice weather we've been having. I highly recommend getting a walk in whenever it is nice outside!

Eat: Whole Fruits and Vegetables are Best when choosing the healthiest produce. According to Cooking Light, "when you eat fresh fruit and vegetables in their original forms, you reap the most nutritional benefits." In addition to choosing fresh produce, for those that have edible skins, eat the skin too! While you can get a lot of the same good nutritious vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from frozen, canned, dried, or juice forms of produce; you will still be missing out on the fiber you get from the fresh produce. The fiber is good not only for helping you to feel full, but it also aids in heart and digestive health.

Relax: While trying to pick out a fun movie to watch while chilling out today, I came across one of my FAVORITE classics from when I was a kid on Demand for free: The Neverending Story! SO Aaron and I sat down to watch this old movie (especially since he's never seen it). While Aaron liked watching it and found it enjoyable, I fell asleep and ended up napping...
