Day 99 - The Center for Food Safety

The Center for Food Safety is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 that is interested in challenging harmful food production technologies and promoting sustainable alternatives. The CFS works to combine multiple tools and strategies in pursuit of its goals; such as "litigation and legal petitions for rule making, legal support for various sustainable agriculture and food safety constituencies, as well as public education, grassroots organizing and media outreach."

The "legal and policy staff work to monitor and/or alter policies established by the three primary federal agencies involved in regulating the nation's food supply, i.e., the FDA, the USDA, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)."

They have also created a grassroots action network called CFS's True Food Network, to be used as a resource for anyone interested in learning more about important food issues and voicing their opinion. In addition to this website, they have also created pages for many different food issues; such as genetically engineered foods, global warming, seed saving, mad cow disease, and more.

Exercise: The break continues… today is normally a run/yoga day. Enjoy doing the workouts. I'll get back to it in just a few days.

Eat: Potatoes are one of the most eaten vegetable by humans today. Potatoes contain benefits such as potassium, vitamin C, fiber, magnesium, manganese, niacin, vitamin B6, and folate. While many will say that these high-carbohydrate potatoes are not good for you, they are really quite misunderstood. They are actually good for you, and they are especially good for you if you eat the skin!

Relax: After work today, I was able to stop back over at the hospital on my way home to visit with Katherine, Lailalyn, and Chris. They honored me today by asking me to become Lailalyn's second God-Mother. I am so happy! So now I can officially call Laila my goddaughter. :)
